THEATRE WORKSHOP SHOW POSSIBILITIES:

(Below is a list of the shows we are considering for this season. The show(s) we choose to produce depends primarily on the number of people who sign up, and the male to female ratio. Read our "On Casting" letter in the audition packet to fully understand what goes into casting a show.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood
A Musical by Rupert Holmes

This wildly warm-hearted theatrical experience kicks off when the Music Hall Royale (a hilariously loony Victorian musical troupe) "puts on" its flamboyant rendition of an unfinished Dickens mystery. The story itself deals with John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster who is quite madly in love with his music student, the fair Miss Rosa Bud. Now, Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper's nephew, young Edwin Drood. Our title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve-but has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunnit? Musical numbers include The Wage of Sin, Perfect Strangers, Both Sides of the Coin, Don't Quit While You're Ahead and Moonfall. The giddy playfullness of this play-within-a-play draws the audience toward one of DROOD'S most talked-about features, which allows the audience to vote on the solution as prelude to the most unusual and hilarious finale!

The World Goes 'Round
Music by John Kander
Lyrics by Fred Ebb
Conceived by Jacques Deval, Susan Stroman and David Thompson

Sometimes you're happy and sometimes you're sad - but the world goes 'round." Life - with its glories, indignities, hopes and quiet dreams - is the subject of this stunning revue of the beloved songs of John Kander and Fred Ebb. The vast range of human experience is explored in song after impeccable song by one of Broadway's most daring and successful teams and masters of the heart-grabbing Broadway showstopper. This glittering revue features unforgettable gems from throughout their incredible career in theatre, film and television, spotlighting songs from "Cabaret" "Chicago" "New York, New York" "Funny Lady" "Kiss Of The Spiderwoman" and more.

She Loves Me
Book by Joe Masteroff
Music by Jerry Bock
Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick

It is the rare musical theatre aficionado who doesn't have a soft spot in his heart for this intimate show, considered by many the most charming musical ever written. Georg and Amalia are two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie during the 1930s who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, little knowing their respective correspondents are none other than each other. Funny, intelligent, honest and sentimental, "She Loves Me" is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia, yet as universal and relevant as ever in this age of internet romances.

People VS Mona
A Musical by Jim Wann and Patricia Miller

The People vs. Mona is a love story, murder mystery, courtroom shenanigans, fate-of-a-small-town-hanging-on-the-verdict musical.

The music combines folk, blues, gospel, jazz, rock, musical comedy, school anthem, marching band and bossa nova with a theatrical sensibility.

Mona Mae Katt, a third-generation Latina-American, owns the Frog Pad, the long-time musical heart of Tippo, GA, a town in need of a plan to revive itself. She is accused of killing C.C. Katt, recording studio operator and her husband of ten hours, by hitting him over the head with her Stratocaster guitar. She is defended by Jim Summerford, a Southern gentleman who's never won a case against prosecutor and Mayoral candidate Mavis Frye - his fiance.

As Jim tries to prove Mona's innocence, he becomes attracted to her, and Mavis ups the stakes: she wants to convict Mona, marry Jim, take office, tear down the Frog Pad, and put up a CasinoÑbringing in bucks, but taking away Tippo's artistic and social traditions in the process. And if Mona is found guilty, the odds are Mavis will get her way.

Several of the actors play multiple roles in a parade of witnesses on the way to a sequence of surprise endings. MONA manages to combine a love triangle, courtroom drama, and character-driven comedy in an original book musical, with a light-hearted message about the importance of cultural heritage in America's towns. Keep the Frog Pad alive!

Our Town
By Thornton Wilder

Described by Edward Albee as "...the greatest American play ever written," the story follows the small town of Grover's Corners through three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage," and "Death and Eternity." Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually - in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre - die.

While all of Wilder's work is intelligent, non-synthetic and often moving, as well as funny, it is Our Town that makes the difference. It is probably the finest play ever written by an American." - Edward Albee

The Laramie Project
By Moises Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project

In October 1998 a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moises Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, and others were citizens of Laramie, and the breadth of their reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

By Paul Armento

Set in a kindergarten classroom, a substitute teacher arrives to teach and finds she must tackle, not only the interpersonal conflicts among the students, but also her own inner turmoil of what it means to be a good teacher. This funny, poignant musical takes us on a journey of the heart teaching the life lesson that in the garden of life, we grow each other, and that no matter what age a person might be, people need nurturing to grow.

Children's Letters to God
Book by Stuart Hample. Music by David Evans. Lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen. Based on the international best-selling book by Stuart Hample and Eric Marshall

Inspired by the international bestseller of the same name, Children's Letters To God is a musical that follows the lives of five young friends as they voice beliefs, desires, questions and doubts common to all people but most disarmingly expressed by children. Sixteen tuneful songs and assorted scenes (some based on actual letters) explore timeless issues such as sibling rivalry, divorce, holidays, loss of a beloved pet, the trials of being unathletic and first love. This entertaining show carries a universal message which crosses the boundaries of age, geography, and religion.

As in the best-selling book, the musical is not specifically religious in nature. It's about kids and various events in their lives that lead them to ask a lot of questions -- some funny, some serious, some surprising.
